This is getting old! But it’s been long time coming. We (Canada) needed to learn how to go much beyond the US. Now we know we can; though with some expected growing pains that will pass soon enough.

One “but,” though: in Canada, the real cost of publishing a paper in some non-profit journals is about CAN$2400 mainly because the whole operation runs here, not on cheaper labour elsewhere. Even that feels steep. We really need new models for financing publishing.
