Emergency manager at a university at the pointy end of a triangular state. CEM. NEMAA 19-2. Opinions and sarcasm mine, employer has its own. Not monitored 24/7, not a 911 center. Mostly-abandoned blog at emergencypants.wordpress.com.
One of my other feeds recently surfaced an interesting article making the case that healthcare would benefit from more autistic practitioners. Many of the same arguments, I think, apply in other professional (and not-quite-yet-professional...) fields... www.liebertpub.com/doi/10.1089/...
Why We Need More Autistic Health Care Professionals and How to Support Them | Autism in Adulthood
Many autistic characteristics (especially attention to detail, social nonconformity, monotropism, and knowledge of autism) set autistic health care professionals apart as especially well-suited for th...

Some days, I feel like this exemplifies FEMA emergency management doctrine when applied at the local level.

TIL that my new employer has a Meat Center.

I am so excited to learn that my new workplace has a research team looking at accessibility tools for gaming.

This also prompted a line of thought about accessibility and DEI, or lack thereof, in public safety exercise design. I'm interested to see if any of this group's work is applicable there.

I am useless without a dry-erase board in my office.

Substitute "facilities" or "physical plant" for "IT" and this is probably every university campus on the planet.

A previous workplace literally had Bob, and Bob retired last year.

I want to apply for grant funding to hire an artist to illustrate emergency management tarot because cartomancy will probably be just as effective as any other method we currently have for generating FEMA-approved hazard mitigation plans.
