The archaeology of archaeology! The results of fieldwalking by CAFG from 1979/80, recorded on cards and on hand traced and gridded maps. Grids would have been laid out using tapes in the field, with finds recorded per 100m square (hectare).

Another Grimsby monument of design, not quite on a par with the Docks Tower, or Tower Bridge London, is the Corporation bridge. A fine example of a rolling bascule bridge, sadly closed and under dust sheets for the last couple of years! Photo: www.nelincs.gov.uk/final-stages...

Probably spent more time talking to visitors than actually processing finds; but that should be part of the process and what fine surroundings to work in!

This year's excavations in the gardens of Wimpole Hall (NT) led by Oxford Archaeology with CAFG and NT volunteers in support, getting down to some serious archaeology. Medieval pottery appearing, even some Roman and maybe the moat of the earlier manor house! (until sat 13th)
