Tried drawing some pretty clouds, got frustrated, pivoted to creating some sort of cosmic horror. Happy accidents? 😅
A cosmic horror with a body somewhat resembling the head of a catfish with eyes on stalks, and squid-like tentacles dangling behind it. It floats among some trippy-looking multicolored clouds. Some of the clouds appear to be some sort of toxic/magical substance that has possibly been expelled from the beast's mouth.

An aurora is visible in Iowa right now! 🤯 (It showed up way brighter in the photo than it looked to my eyeballs, but it was still really cool to see it.)

Last weekend, I got my plants all set up for overwintering in the garage. To make sure I don't give them too much or too little water, I'm using this soil monitoring device I developed last year, which sends moisture data to my home automation server via Bluetooth: github.com/colececil/au...
Four pots setting in my garage: one containing a young mulberry tree, one containing a couple oak seedlings, and two containing ginkgo seeds. Each pot has a soil moisture sensor stuck into it, all of which are connected to a single microcontroller that's plugged into a wall outlet. A screenshot from my Home Assistant server, with charts showing soil moisture levels (as percentages) over the past seven days for each of the four pots. Each chart has an upward spike at the time when I connected the devices and watered the plants a couple days ago, followed by a gradual decline as the water has been slowly evaporating since then.

Weekend project: I need to pick out a new food for my cats, so I scraped dry cat food data from Chewy and now I'm exploring it with www.nushell.sh. 😎🤓

Current status:
My orange cat is lying on top of my keyboard (which is black with green, unlabeled keys), pressing down a bunch of keys and preventing me from getting any work done. Notes from the first night. I'm feeling quite good about where this is going!
A notebook with rough notes about game ideas, implementation details, and plans. The right page starts with vague game ideas for the theme "bubble" and then goes on to list more detailed ideas for the "Oxygen Farm" game idea we settled on. The left page contains a sketch of the game's main scene, along with some notes for figuring out the aspect ratio, resolution, and color palette. It also has plans for who will be working on which parts.

I occasionally enjoy leaving my succulents on the kitchen counter for a few days where I can fully appreciate them, but it's time to move them back to the windowsill so they'll continue to thrive.

I have my Home Assistant server reading and reporting the data, along with an alert it sends to my phone if either tree's moisture level falls below 20%.
