Trying to decide which book to read for our 6️⃣7️⃣ picture book read aloud of the school year. I usually don’t spend this much time thinking about read aloud 67. 🤷‍♂️

Today we read one of the greatest picture books of all-time. It was lovely. And magical. And fun.

This week our reading curriculum has us reading about the 1925 Serum Race, so I had to bust out this amazing picture book to read aloud toy 5th graders. It is a little longer than most picture books I read aloud to them, but they were completely captivated.

I loved Coach. A beautiful addition to Jason Reynolds’s Track series. Pretty wild twist, that I did not see coming, in this one. Young readers are so lucky to have this book enter the world. ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

If you haven’t read Dinosaurs in Space aloud to kids, you haven’t really even read it. Oh my goodness. Such a riot! My 5th graders were dying. 😂

We ended our day with a read aloud of my all-time favorite picture book biography. I love this book so much.

Today we started a new read aloud: No Talking. I think Andrew Clements is the master of school stories, and September is the perfect time to read an awesome school story. Hoping this read aloud leads to a bunch of my readers exploring Andrew’s phenomenal books.

We finished our first read aloud of the school year. This one is still a home run with kids. They loved it so darn much. I think I’ve read this one aloud to kids more than any other book. The end gets me EVERY time. 😭

In a cabin with 20 boys at 5th grade camp! 😳Had to bring a picture book to read to them before lights out. They loved the wordless book HIKE. It seemed to help them settle in before we fell asleep. 🏕️

I loved Confessions of a Mango. Ruby and her twin brother transfer to a very competitive and intense charter school Benton. Ruby’s brother Bryce loves it. It’s his dream school. Ruby on the other hand feels like she is drowning. Is she the only won that feels this way?

My fifth graders could not have loved this book more. They felt sooooo seen! 😆 If you haven’t read this one aloud to group of kiddos you are really missing out.

We ended the second day of school reading Vashti Harrison’s BIG. It is one of the most powerful picture books to read aloud to a classroom of young readers. My kids were floored. I can tell that they have giant hearts, and that they have a deep desire to do good in this world.

I was able to squeeze in one last summer read before I head back to work tomorrow, and I am so glad that I did.

Growing Home is magical. I think it might be the best middle grade book to read aloud from 2025. The characters are so unique and unforgettable. What a fun book!!!!

Hoping to finish one more book before I head back of work on Monday.

There is just something special about a James Ponti book. I loved the second book of The Sherlock Society even more than the first book, and I LOVED book one. Spending time with these kids again was so much fun, and the grandfather is one of the coolest adults you will ever meet in a children’s book

Just added The Interpreter to my @bookelicious.bsky.social classroom wishlist. Loved this beautiful picture book about a girl that is juggling being a kid with translating for her parents. www.bookelicious.com/account/regi... #FillMyShelf

Kwame Alexander’s THE MIGHTY MACY is amazing. Young readers are going to find themselves captivated by this girl and her mission to save her school library.

Kit Thomas’s art adds to much to Kwame’s amazing poems.

Book drops in February.
