Asking 300+ year-old laws to reflect any society now is a deeply flawed premise.

A 300+ year old foundation on a house needs inspection, repair, and rebuilding, too.

I think that that IS what he’s saying, and also that he’s wrong. Half of The Law(tm)’s problems come from its inability to grow and change to reflect reality.

Also the entire concept of “letter of the law” being preferred over the “spirit of the law” doesn’t help.
