we had breakfast this morning with an gay couple from asheville who told us about using their vacation to help an elderly neighbor move her knickknacks across the country and a pilgrimage to the shepard site and biking the C&O together in their 60s…idk. i love my people. i love gay Appalachians.

more than anything, it’s made me feel unexpectedly cradled and held by a sort of beautiful current of queer humanity. as a really conservatively isolated kid and late-to-myself out gay person, casually meeting and recognizing and talking with gay adults in unfamiliar places still feels so special.

it has genuinely been one of the highlights of this trip and a really delightful reminder of the rich and tremendous interiority of every stranger you pass in the world and the potential for connection with a person you will never find on instagram or stand to benefit materially from impressing
