in rejecting the notion that you are privileged, you become an oppressor to those beneath you. you make their issues look superficial.

being able to leave is privilege, and it is not a failure of character if you have that privilege. it is a systemic failure that such privilege is conditional.

if your response to having your privilege pointed out is to get defensive, you are doing nothing but harming those less fortunate than you.
