Ice makers as part of a fridge freezer have disadvantages -
The mechanism takes up room in the appliance
They often need to be plumbed.
They are one more thing that can fail.
A stand alone ice maker is often quicker.
I don't have one as I don't have the need for lots of ice.

We have all the usual appliances that appear in western houses.
An ice maker is quite useful if you the kind of person that entertains a lot.

no freezers or fridges here - we can't fit them through the doors to our Hobbit houses.
