Ballistic target prediction when APN guidance walks in: (pretend I have the squidward reaction gif here)

If I ever do game dev and have to present to shareholders, I will point at the first dumbass who asks about the black and pink squares with big bold text that says "placeholder" and loudly declare that "I'm going to make a game where the main objective is to beat your ass you specifically"

I see, but does this not introduce alignment issues with how well the bullet lines up with the barrel? or is there just so much energy that it doesn't matter?
November 16, 2025 at 9:30 PM
More importantly, why can't they just do this with brass?
November 16, 2025 at 6:37 AM
Wait, so you're telling me that they're just gonna pack the powder tighter in the TC cartridges.

I thought that the propellant is intentionally packed loosely so that when the gun fires, it doesn't explode in your hands.
November 16, 2025 at 6:36 AM
Except that the "less space wasted" is the same volume as the "extra casing material" needed to make the cartridge telescoped...
November 15, 2025 at 8:06 PM
What about ammo orienting? Most quick-loading tool for reloading magazines takes advantage of the irregular shape to allow the bullets to self-orient when loading. Having all your ammo be a perfect cylinder means that you'll have to either manually align the bullet or find some other mechanism
November 15, 2025 at 7:11 PM
So this is just a "how easily you can pack the ammo" issue.

Then what this effectively means is that it'll use the same amount of space in the magazine regardless, just that less of the space is wasted, at the cost of more casing material wasted.
November 15, 2025 at 7:11 PM
And you also can't just pack the bullet down, because the propellant is not packed completely tight for a very good reason.
November 15, 2025 at 7:04 PM
I'm not sure if a telescoped cartridge would actually use less space than a conventionally shaped cartridge. Assuming the same propellant, same bullet, and same casing material, a telescoped cartridge would require more volume since the cartridge now has to cover the whole bullet instead.

Polyphenylene sulfide, and PA6 Nylon are both pretty good candidate in this regard. That said, PA6 Nylon is sensitive to storage humidity while PPS is significantly less sensitive.

Depending on mechanical property requirements, you might also want fiber reinforced composites of these materials too.

By having any casing at all, when the bullet fires, the expanding exhaust gasses will force the casing to form a seal against the chamber, forcing exhaust gasses only forward and out.

So the only concern left at this point is to have a polymer that wouldn't deform and melt too much to be extracted.
November 15, 2025 at 6:59 PM
I don't think that thermal properties other than high-temperature stability would be necessary for a polymer casing.

The bigger issue than heatsinking for caseless is that there's nothing keeping the hot exhaust gases from flowing into the mechanical parts.

But how would I make the joke about “married for tax reasons“ when making up head canon for my beans in rimworld?

The other absolutely insane thing about D-He3 fusion startups, specifically Helion, is that they don’t even have a He3 supply. They plan on making the He3 in the reactor via D-D fusion, then doing D-He3 fusion with the helium it makes.

That’s a lot of neutron radiation!

Just to clarify, I am not advocating for violence, nor do I plan to commit any violence of such type.

However, should such an event - matching what is described in my previous reply - occur, I am willing to pay top dollars for a front row seat, or even pay-per-view of a recording of said event.

Wait, you're supposed to pretend that you're a True Fan™️of WH40k then use the meme to call things "heresy"?

I thought you're only supposed to use the meme ironically to express general dislike of concepts as a dramatic overreaction for comedic purposes!

I'd love to see this jackass try to grease the palms of Newton's First Law of Motion when a sledge hammer is moving rapidly at his face.

"Facts don't care about your feelings" goes both ways.

As far as conservatives' feelings are concerned, everything is one-sided.

Living in their own bubble and forcing everyone else to live in said bubble is kind of their thing.

I am now comedically obligated to make an argument and scream something that sounds entirely plausible to someone who have no idea what’s going on.

Ahem.
