The Yankees scored 6 in the bottom of the 8th to blow open what had before then been a relatively close Game 4. The final score was 11-4, with Herb Pennock getting the win after 7 workmanlike innings. Faber got the save, with Coveleski absorbing the loss. Pie Traynor had a triple and a home run.

The Yankees' bats awakened at home in Game 3 of the Alt-1924 World Series. Goose Goslin led the way with 4 RBI from a home run and a double, while Harry Heilmann pitched in with 3 hits. Vance wasn't dominant but bore down when it mattered, while Toney could not contain Murderer's Row.

The Cardinals came back to win a see-saw Game 2 of the Alt-1924 World Series by a 9-5 score, as Freddie Fitzsimmons could not hold down St. Louis. Sam Rice and Joe Harris both had 4 wins for the victors, Waite Hoyt gutted it out for 7 1/3 innings before Dauss got a 5-out save.

Game 1 of the Alt-1924 World Series found Juan Padron of the host St. Louis Cardinals locked in a pitchers' duel with the New York Yankees' Herb Pennock. The Yanks scratched out a earned run in the 2nd and an unearned run in the 4th, while Pennock shut down the Cards. New York leads the series 1-0.

The minor league championships were mixed bags. Toronto swept Oakland, Grand Rapids forced the favorite Charlotte Hornets to 7 games, the underdog Fall River Rovers upended Allentown, and Hampton Roads came away victors over Jacksonville.

It’s been a busy month IRL, and also in Alt-1924 where it’s now October 7th. First, a look at the minor leagues, where both the Western League and the Eastern League ended with the top teams a percentage point apart due to differing numbers of wins/losses/ties. Grand Rapids and Fall River advanced.

The Western League always seems to have competitive races and crazy finishes, and this year is no different. Going into the last two games, Grand Rapids is _just_ ahead of Tulsa. The Black Sox are in a better position, but the OIlers could certainly take the pennant. 5/

Charlotte seemed to be cruising to a Southern League pennant, but Nashville caught fire in July and have gone 46-17-1 since that month started. The Hornets are still in the driver's seat, but can't seem to finish off the Vols. With two games to go, the outcome still isn't settled. 4/

The Fall River Rovers won the Eastern League pennant by a percentage point over the Portland Duffs, closing a 3-game gap in the last 10 games. Allentown, meanwhile, ran away with the American Association crown. They'll face each other in the Eastern Classic. 3/

Game 1 of the Little World Series will take place in a few days in Toronto, with Oakland en route. The Oaks went 91-53 and won the PCL by 10 games. The Maple Leafs were 95-49 and won the International League by 14 games. Toronto's roster has several IRL Hall of Famers, Oakland's players are obscure.

Finally, the Cotton States League is a two-team race between Jacksonville and Hampton Roads after about 64 of 80 games have been played. This league will determine its champion with a playoff between the top two teams, so it is fitting that two teams seem to be better than the others.
March 16, 2025 at 12:17 AM
The three A-level leagues lack MLB farm teams. The Allentown Dukes have run away with the American Association pennant and await the Eastern League champion to be crowned. Right now, Portland looks like they will meet Allentown in the Eastern Classic, but Fall River and Albany are still in it.
March 16, 2025 at 12:14 AM
The pennant races at the AA level are both up in the air, though the Southern League is very much Charlotte's to lose. The Western League is a coinflip between Grand Rapids and Tulsa, with Minneapolis still hanging in there. There are standout performers for sure, but no slam-dunk MVP candidates.
March 16, 2025 at 12:03 AM
The Oakland Oaks and Toronto Maple Leafs will face each other in the AAA Little World Series starting on the 11th. This is Oakland's 2nd pennant and Toronto's 4th. Toronto players litter the leaderboards, while Oakland's players are largely absent. Does this augur well for Toronto? Who knows.

Heilmann and Ruth continue to look like the favorites for the AL MVP, while the AL Cy Young race looks like Streeter vs. Pennock. In the NL, Hornsby was injured 3 weeks ago and won't return for 5 more weeks. Simmons has the Triple Crown (and MVP) in his grasp. The NL Cy Young award is up for grabs.

It is the end of play on 20 August 1924. Teams have played 118-121 games, so we're 3/4 of the way through the season. There's been no real change in the standings, as the Yankees and Cardinals continue to barrel their way toward a World Series meeting. The Yankees have gone 18-4, the Cards 13-7.
March 8, 2025 at 2:29 AM
The affiliated minor leagues also don't have good pennant races going this year. Despite their dreadful 9th-place standing in the NL, the Orioles' AAA and AA farm teams (Oakland and Charlotte) lead their leagues (the PCL and Southern League). Toronto and Tri-Cities belong to the Yankees and Robins.
February 13, 2025 at 3:01 AM
The pennant race in the National League is no closer, as the Cardinals continue to put distance between themselves and their pursuers. Hornsby looks like the likely MVP, though sophomore Al Simmons is providing some competition.

It's the end of play on 27 July 1924, and the Alt-1924 major league teams have played between 99-101 games. The Yankees, who've gone 14-3 since last time, continue to run away with the American League, currently on a 126-win pace and dominating the leader boards.

The AL scored a 9-8 victory in a wild, see-saw Alt-1924 All-Star Game, held in Buffalo's New Olympic Park. In the end, Eddie Collins came through with a bases-loaded, 9th inning single off of Bob Pepper and Herb Pennock struck out the side for the save. Red Faber got the win after a clean 8th.

While the Yankees and Cardinals are running away with the pennants they did not similarly dominate the All-Star voting. Nevertheless, they are amply represented in the reserves. The Tigers, Browns, White Sox, and Peppers were shut out from the AL team, but every NL team has a representative.

It's the morning of 14 July 1924 in our semi-historical baseball sim. The All-Star Game will be held in Buffalo tomorrow, and the teams were announced yesterday. The starters are shown in the attached images, with Heilmann and Hornsby leading the overall votes. The AL leads the series 4 games to 3.

A look at the minors shows that Oakland has increased their PCL lead but there's been churn in the last three weeks in the other leagues--Toronto's gone 15-6 to seize the IL lead, Grand Rapids now leads the WL after a 16-4 stretch, and New Orleans is charging hard on Charlotte in the SL. 6/

In the National League, the Cardinals keep on winning, with a 16-5 record since the last update. A Yankees-Cards World Series (like 1918 and 1920) looks most likely at this point, and the 1922 and 1923 NL pennant winners are currently in the cellar. League leaders are included below. 4/
