Every year we work with hundreds of partners - from charities to governments to business - to help them navigate difficult climate communications and unlock more ambitious climate action.

Amidst concerns about the costs and fairness of climate policy, reports like NESO’s can be used to boost confidence that net zero is ultimately cost-effective.

We also see increased support for net zero policy when benefits are included. Emphasising the better future that we’re unlocking by reaching net zero goes a long way - whether it’s cheaper bills, cleaner air, good jobs, better health and wellbeing.

💡 This transition is widely supported. According to our research:
➡️ More British people think that net zero is good for the UK than bad.
➡️ Brits support, and are proud of, the transition to green energy.
➡️ The majority of Brits want to see more ambitious climate action.

NESO’s investigations show that reaching net zero by 2050 requires significant investment - largely in the energy sector, such as building new windfarms, and decarbonising our home energy by replacing gas boilers with heat pumps.

In a scenario where we meet net zero by 2050, this is set to bring average savings of £36bn each year - contrary to a scenario where the UK slows climate action.

Adaptation solutions exist - and we need to get better at implementing and explaining them, quickly.

However, three quarters of Brits agree with this statement: “the government needs to take climate change seriously – that means focusing on preparing us for the worst impacts of climate change, such as by building better flood defences and making our homes more suited for the heat”.

🤝 At Climate Outreach, we have been working to influence this vital strategy over the last few years, alongside other organisations and experts in the Action for Climate Empowerment (ACE) Coalition.

We’re especially excited about:
1️⃣ A new Youth Climate and Nature Council enabling young people to help shape government policy.
2️⃣ An annual ‘Energising Britain event’ to get people together who are doing brilliant things.
3️⃣ The plan to commission more work about fairness in climate policy.

We also see that for many, there’s still a strong sense of pride and identity in the industries that have historically powered our country. The clean energy transition needs to be handled without trashing the past & the people who have built their livelihoods in fossil fuel industries.
November 26, 2025 at 5:27 PM
💡Our research (climateoutreach.org/btc/2025/cha...) shows that Brits are far more excited by the future of clean energy than they are disapproving of the fossil fuels we’re moving away from. In Wales and Scotland, renewables give people as much or more pride in their country today as fossil fuels.

🏠 We still need to see more support for households in the upcoming Warm Homes Plan - to drive forward key areas such as insulation and heat pump support - and drive down bills and improve fundamental living standards.

By moving green levies which help to pay for the transition to clean energy onto general taxation - the Chancellor paves the way for cheaper electricity bills - and incentivises low carbon heating options.
