Heat pump appreciation account. Pro-human intelligence, especially when it comes with human kindness.
sorry but no, this is not morally equivalent to the actions of petrostates. It's a ban on new exploration licences, with a small concession to the industry. The BBC framing is misleading.

This is a misleading headline. They are turning the moratorium into a permanent ban on new oil and gas exploration licences. Good news! There is a loophole for "tiebacks", which is not ideal, but small scale. The overall trend is declining oil and gas production, reinforced by this policy

the reason they united behind a roadmap is because countries are willing to go further together than alone. Not pretending to be perfect but building the collective commitment and enabling conditions to do better

That BBC headline is misleading. It's in the context of the UK government introducing a ban on new oil and gas exploration licences. "More" will be allowed in the sense of more than zero, but it's a minor caveat. The trend, reinforced by this policy decision, is declining oil and gas production

eurggghhh. they are fundamentally a biz lobby, saying whatever they think will give their members' projects the best chance given the political weather. It's completely different in the UK, where even the generalist Energy UK is progressive on the clean transition

EVERY SINGLE FOSSIL FUEL IS MORE EXPENSIVE IN THE TRUMP-PLEASING HIGH-FOSSIL-FUEL SCENARIO

I wish I'd had the time to read this whole report properly earlier this week: the scale of this rake-step / self-own is absolutely incredible

THANKYOU donald trump for pushing the IEA to include all of this

This is even better: household electricity bills are lowest in the net zero scenario, basically everywhere.

Of course they are: buying fossil fuels and burning them is obscenely expensive and unreliable and requires constant, expensive support

Speaking at the @beyondoilgas.bsky.social press conference today, Colombia's acting environment minister, Irene Vélez, said: "Despite being a producer country of oil and coal, we have chosen not to grant any new oil exploration contracts nor any new coal mining titles.”
