3) It did not assess its proposals against the EU climate objectives, even though this is a legal obligation - including under urgent procedures.

1) It rushed through the two proposals without proper impact assessments and without consulting the public - citing the “urgency” of the new political priority of ‘simplification´.

2) It failed to ensure broad consultations as required by EU Treaties, and sidelined civil society.

We call for:
🌾 Fair farmer income support
🌱 Create the economic conditions for the agroecological (e.g., organic) transition
🚜 Make farming attractive
🌿 Invest in ecosystems and support farmers in the transition
❌ End harmful subsidies
💶 EU budget that delivers on public goals

We ask decision-makers to:

1) Act against climate disinformation and uphold information integrity
2) Commit to legal frameworks to hold companies accountable across their supply chains
3) Listen to the courts and turn progressive and science-driven pledges into laws

The Board had recommended a net domestic reduction of GHGs by 90–95% by 2040 & advised against relying on intl offsets, saying efforts should concentrate on domestic emission reductions.

But today Ministers voted for a 90% emissions cut allowing for up to 5% to be met through intl credits. 2/3

Simplifying regulations is the wrong path, moving away from the high level of protection enshrined in primary EU law.

The real challenge lies in weak political commitment & poor implementation. Both should be addressed through improved enforcement & coordination. 3/3

Weakening these safeguards would directly contradict the EU’s commitment to preserving, protecting & improving environmental quality.
