Back from Belem, here at ClientEarth we will continue to use the ICJ’s advisory opinion to hold States to account and increase the pressure on them to act on climate change.

And we will make sure that justice truly takes root. 6/6

COP30 also saw the very first mobilisation to tackle climate disinformation, with the landmark Declaration on Information Integrity being sealed...

...and the launch of our own report on the role of social media platforms in climate disinformation. 5/6

What makes this #COP different is that it happened in the wake of a landmark advisory opinion from the International Court of Justice – the world’s highest Court.

The opinion – under intl law, countries MUST act now to avoid climate catastrophe – is true regardless of the outcome text. 4/6

The final outcome also did not include any reference or process to tackling deforestation.

But COP30 did see more than 50 countries, including 34 tropical forest countries, endorse the Tropical Forests Forever Facility, starting with USD 5.5 billion. 3/6

The final outcome did not include any reference to fossil fuels, let alone any formal process to their phase-out.

But 80 countries called for a roadmap to transition away from fossil fuels, a (now voluntary) initiative that will be led by the COP30 presidency. 2/6

The Karipuna have inhabited the Amazon for centuries, and survived a genocide. Invading Indigenous land is a crime in Brazil. Yet they're still facing land-grabbing, climate-change driven fires & illegal deforestation.

At #COP30, Indigenous leader Adriano K. is urging the govt to deliver justice:

It's more important than ever that the UK shows leadership through supporting and complying with the Convention.

Our wildlife and nature depend on it. 🌳3/3

The Aarhus Convention is a critical foundation for public participation in environmental decision making in the UK and elsewhere.

Without it, people living in the UK would struggle to have their voices heard when advocating for the environment we love and rely on. 2/3

On #COP30 Information Integrity Day, we’re joining Climate Action Against Disinformation and many other orgs urging governments to:

stop the lies and climate disinfo,
stop the delay and
recognise that information integrity is the foundation of real climate action.
