Any movement preaching intolerance places itself outside the law.
Incitement to intolerance and persecution should be criminal — just like incitement to murder, kidnapping, or slavery.

Therefore, in the name of tolerance, we should not tolerate the intolerant.

But:
we should claim the right to suppress them if necessary, even by force — for they may not engage in rational debate.
They may forbid their followers to listen, and instead answer with fists or pistols.

This does not mean we must always suppress intolerant philosophies.
As long as they can be countered by rational argument and public opinion, suppression would be unwise.

If we extend unlimited tolerance even to those who are intolerant, and if we are not prepared to defend a tolerant society against their onslaught, then the tolerant will be destroyed — and tolerance with them.
