⚠️ Important next steps for Nonprofits!⚠️

It's up to solicitors how comfortable they feel bringing up these options, but presumably you know your major donors quite well. In-person meetings are worth their weight in gold. Make sure you stay in touch with these major donors!

End-of-life gifts might come in the form of an outright gift or by making a charity a beneficiary of a Donor Advised Fund, Life Insurance, or retirement account.

Life Income Gifts can be useful for larger charities. As your nonprofit grows, it may be worth consulting an attorney about this option.

Nonprofits can encourage donors to use Qualified Charitable Distributions directly from an IRA, which completely avoids income tax on the donor's part.
November 19, 2025 at 12:19 AM
Providing different options for how to give is a way of meeting the donor where they are. Options like having a direct transfer from a brokerage account to avoid capital gains tax can incentivize the donor to give even more.

Here are some ways that you can maximize the amount of money coming to your nonprofits while minimizing the impact on the donors.

Here's a call to ClassACTion from our Bridge Project The Ole & Nu Style Fellas Social Aide & Pleasure Club.

For 5 years, members of the ClassACT community have donated more than 100 coats helping keep kids from the Tremé section of New Orleans warm and dry in the winter.

The ClassACT HR73 theme for this year is Democracy@250. The United States military has played a key role in our history and therefore warrants our collective attention now, as we celebrate the country’s first 250 years.

From LTG (Ret.) David W. Barno: Look at the legislation that need to be revised or created to restrain executive power over the military, including the Insurrection Act, Posse Comitatus Act, and Title 10 of the US Code. #ClassACTHR73Forum
November 12, 2025 at 1:28 AM
Kayyem and Barno explain that every commander has legal advice from a Judge Advocate General who helps them determine what is and is not a "legal order." The expansion of presidential powers has put them in a difficult position, but the advice they are giving is not diminished. #ClassACTHR73Forum

It's been unclear that these attacks are illegal, so the military will carry them out, says LTG Barno. It falls to Congress to restrain the president's powers in this area. #ClassACTHR73Forum

It is difficult for Juliette Kayyem to see the recent attacks on South American ships as anything other than extrajudicial, not least because the UK has decided to stop cooperating with the US on intelligence related to counterterrorism and counternarcotics. #ClassACTHR73Forum

We can't put the responsibility on the military to keep itself tethered to our larger society. That is something we as civilians owe them, Kori Schake says. #ClassACTHR73Forum
November 12, 2025 at 1:08 AM
We need to do more to educate military members on how to translate what they did in the military so that it can be understood by civilian employers, which can bring the military more into civilian life. #ClawssACTHR73Forum
November 12, 2025 at 1:07 AM
There is a responsibility for the military to reach out to civilians and for civilians to understand their military. On the military side, it's important for them to leave the mega-bases and military towns and show up to local county fairs, rotary clubs, etc. #ClassACTHR73Forum

The issue with military, masking, and other issues related to ICE is there is no operational planning for what is happening on the ground right now. The DC police chief said he wasn't even notified. There have been instances of "friendly fire," and that concerns Juliette Kayyem. #ClassACTHR73Forum
November 12, 2025 at 1:02 AM
When we hear "militia" we often think of masked people in the mountains, but the 2nd amendment also refers to the National Guard, says LTG (Ret.) David W. Barno. He agrees it isn't the 2nd amendment that's causing political violence.
November 12, 2025 at 1:00 AM
The encouragement to political violence is very dangerous to the democracy, Schake says. The 2nd amendment doesn't cause this; political discourse does. #ClassACTHR73Forum
November 12, 2025 at 1:00 AM
Conservative governors may be willing to deploy their national guard to blue cities in November 2026, not to enforce but just to suggest voter fraud, etc. It will be difficult to have the military decide if that is illegal or immoral. Those issues must be litigated. #ClassACTHR73Forum
November 12, 2025 at 12:57 AM
There's a lot of enthusiasm for the military refusing to carry out unethical orders, but that is not how our democracy is designed, says Kori Schake. "The solution to our issues is civilian."

Both Schake and LTG Barno agree we don't want the military deciding what is ethical rather than legal.
November 12, 2025 at 12:53 AM
Because we haven't had a president who tried to expand executive powers the way Trump is, we've left a lot of "sloppy" laws around that allow the president to issue "lawful by awful" orders.
November 12, 2025 at 12:51 AM
"The correct role for a military in the politics of this country is no role at all."

We're not concerned about the military carrying out illegal orders. We're worried about orders that are "lawful but awful."
