In it, we explore how journalistic actors, possessing different forms of knowledge about the communities they cover, ground their authority in three dimensions: 1️⃣proximity to news protagonists, 2️⃣authenticity as recognized by the community, and 3️⃣professionalism within the journalistic field.

(1) Mainstream news media (not merely right-wing sources) were heavily shared, suggesting forms of engagement with news that bear little resemblance to "echo chambers" as sometimes assumed by political observers.
