Book 24 was Doctor Who: Thirteen Doctors, 13 Stories by 13 authors and read by almost as many narrators.

The absolute standout for me was the Twelfth Doctor story, Lights Out by Holly Black – a small tale that packs a huge punch.

I’m working on a new one. A cosy mystery in a space station – the first in a new Starship Teapot spinoff series.

I hear you. I started my day by dumping about 400 ml of tea all over my desk.

Book 23 was My Name is Philippa by Philippa Ryder (narrated by Jackie Meloche).

The author shares her life story, warts and all. Her journey to become her authentic self is full of heart and hope.

This week I responded to a fake author with the first few paragraphs from the Wikipedia page for a word from his last email. When he asked about Amazon, I sent him two paragraphs on the river. Then he asked about the holidays, so I sent him text from the disambiguation page. Trailers. Christmas.

I’ve had any number of them. This week it was Michael Wolff.

But the (fake) famous author who contacted me today was Michael Wolff.

I asked him to skip to the part where he tells me about a book marketer, who – despite using a gmail address – is somehow responsible for selling millions of his books.

Funnily enough, he did want to talk about book marketers.

Book 22 was Star Trek: SNW: Asylum by Una McCormack (narrated by Robert Petkoff).

This is a powerful story with an important message about oppression and marginalised groups. Reading this during Trans Awareness Week made it hit extra hard.

The vast, vast majority of them I get every single day go straight in the spam folder.

But every now and then, I like to have a bit of fun with them. I reserve that treatment for the ones posing as world-famous authors who just happen to reach out to nobody indie authors like me to ‘swap stories’.

Not just one. I get about half a dozen of those emails every single day.

Book 21 was The Stars Provide by Lilian Zenzi.

I think this little prequel is best suited to people who have read the rest of the series.

You can get the whole series here: www.lilianzenzi.com/books/

Book 20 was The Suspect by L. R. Wright (by Peter Outerbridge, Kristin Kreuk & John Nelles).

After an old man’s body is discovered in his home, Mountie Karl is tasked with finding the killer. Except this is not a whodunnit.

Book 19 was The Light Fantastic by Terry Pratchett (narrated by Nigel Planer).

Hmmm. Not Sir Pterry’s finest.

While he eventually came out swinging for gender inclusivity, his early works do have some cringy misogyny.
