She had no idea and clearly hadn’t done the work. It was incoherent BS. There wasn’t any way to give her points and maintain rigor. The professor and I met with her. He said he wouldn’t make it go away, but he’d mitigate it if she did well from here out. She took the lesson and got a C in the class.

I gave a 6% to a student on an essay test when I was a TA. I showed it to the professor to see if I was being too harsh and he said he didn’t know what I gave her six points for. Then he started calling me Santa Claus.
