after much deliberation, I succumbed and bought the $89 amazon doctoral regalia rather than renting it for $75 or buying the real stuff for $1370.

well, it finally happened #econsky.

my partner is out with friends, my kid’s aftercare spot is doing an “after dark” special, and I’m… eating dinner and drinking a beer solo while reading an @ecmaeditors.bsky.social paper on my phone at the bar.

today, i allowed myself some excitement about research for the first time in a long time by looking at some dormant papers that need to be revised and sent back out, just as a little treat, as i feel the end of the semester approaching. 📈📉

The School of Economics at Georgia Tech is searching for a new Chair. (We always do external searches...). Don't be spooked by the upcoming deadline for full consideration: Oct 31.

I am on the search committee and happy to answer any questions!

having spent the day fighting jet lag by drinking espresso, eating stroopwafels and French fries, and drinking Dutch beer, while watching bicycles whiz around, I regret to inform you that it is no longer a fair coin flip.
coin flip on whether I decide to come back at this point. I’ll just send for the family and dogs.

one very low-stakes annoyance I have is how fantasy football win projections assume that points accumulate linearly throughout a game.

I don’t have a better idea, but incorporating some larger margin of uncertainty feels appropriate.
