Yeah, for sure. I just like to remind people that there was a lot of deregulation before Uber. Few people know that Minneapolis completely lifted their cap on licenses in 2006, for instance. I think that SF being so bad helped Uber convince people that was how it was everywhere, which it wasn’t.

Many taxi markets were uniquely hindered. DC at that time has the insane zone system which discouraged all kinds of trips even in good weather. DC getting rid of that system was one of the many deregulation efforts cities took for taxis independently of ridehail.
