Hey, fuck Amazon!

Here's a thread of my latest Amazon frustration.

Last fall, I decided to try the Vine program. This is where we provide items to vetted Amazon customers who then write reviews. Amazon charges us the cost of fulfillment, and we provide the items for free.

I read the news and I feel sick; how did my Oma manage it when such things happened in her country? But she was a child then - never lived to be as old as I am now. War works like that, it can still kill you after it's over.

ME: How's it look?

MECHANIC LOOKING UNDER MY IMAGINATION'S HOOD: *wiping hands on a rag* I see your problem. You've been filling this thing up with despair when it's supposed to run on joy.

This week, I learned two new words: clicktatorship and truthstorian. Future historians might be able to make sense of a possible connection.

Only now I understand what Iron Curtain relatives explained to me as a child - what is true must be known among the people because them in charge lie about everything.

Social media both does and really doesn't help with this.

I know this gives folks big feelings & I want to make space for that, but we’re in “pessimism of the intellect, optimism of the will” territory here. What we are experiencing now are the inevitable & historical consequences of the system we have. A new one is simply what is required.

Part of my random whimsy practice for 2026 is giving out charms. These are lucky stars. Today I gave one to the boy who fills the propane and also a nice man and his 2 kids at the store who let me go ahead in line. Every smile is victory in these times.

For New Year's I resolve to bring little moments of joy and whimsy into people's lives, and commit to active kindness as a daily practice.

Everything else will flow from that.

The libraries being poisoned by AI reminds me of dumping dead critters down a well - it's how you force communities to move away; salt the earth so nothing that grows can be trusted, farewell academia.

The witch is a threshold creature. Wood's tangled border, shore's salt-line blur. For at the feral edges of the land her magic is mighty. The fluid boundary of the marsh offers reflected nephomantic glimpses, a rush of whispered wisdom. – #EmilyCBanting, 1982 #WitchSky

The shop will still be “open” but I’ll be putting a notice up about paused shipping.

Doing the shipping hustle through the end of the week, then I’m going to hibernate for a bit.
