Bernie Sanders, in his Senate speech today, outlined (in my opinion) exactly the correct leftist perspective on AI: www.youtube.com/live/iSqJIci...
LIVE: Minneapolis, Stephen Miller, Authoritarianism and a Nation in Decline.

Josh Johnson's sets are always great. But this evening, he has given us a speech that, if it doesn't go down in history, it should. @joshjohnsoncomedy.bsky.social www.youtube.com/watch?v=VukA...

I already had pre-orders in for both the Pebble Time 2 smart watch and the Pebble Index smart ring, based solely on the tech in itself. But I'm doubly happy to be supporting them now that founder @ericmigi.com has taken this public stance. Thank you for speaking up! ericmigi.com/blog/on-bein...
(I wrote a draft of post in early 2025. I picked it up and decided to publish it today, hence why it is more about ‘me’ than the current horrific news of the day)

Gore Verbinski is back! Just got out of an early screening for Good Luck, Have Fun, Don't Die, and it's quite a good ride. Can't really say much without spoilers, but it's worth checking out when it releases for real next month.

Just watched The Testament of Ann Lee. Absolutely beautiful portrayal of one of the most fascinating religious sects in American history, with a gorgeous soundtrack made up primarily of traditional Shaker songs. I highly recommend it if that's your sort of thing!

"I'm not mad at you."

"Are you okay?"

Alright, I'm starting One Piece. I've held off for years because of the intimidating number of episodes. But with Luffy's flag being raised in anti-authoritarian protests around the world, and seeing it today in Minneapolis footage as well, I think it's about time to see what this is about.

I'm getting awfully tired of hearing Democrats talk about training. This is not an issue of training. At all. These murders are exactly what the Trump admin has instructed ICE to do. No amount of training will fix the fact that Nazis are roaming our streets with intent to terrorize and kill people.
January 25, 2026 at 3:30 AM
Something that should go without saying, but is worth clarifying anyway. "ICE" has become shorthand for the entire DHS/CBP/ICE/collective immigration enforcement agencies.
January 25, 2026 at 2:59 AM
Both Renee Good and Alex Pretti were 37 when ICE/CBP murdered them. I'm also 37 this year. I don't have any particular point to make about that, but it certainly makes me feel a kind of way.

Ten shots.

I haven't counted them myself, but according to Heather Cox Richardson, whom I trust as a reliable source, the agents unloaded ten shots into Alex Pretti—after they had already disarmed him.

This was an execution.

Vote swapping (or vote pairing) is a strategy those of us in solidly blue states need to keep in mind for the 2028 election.

Every now and then, when I'm advocating for Ranked-Choice Voting, someone else brings up Approval Voting as the "better" alternative, and... let's just say I'd like to have words with whoever came up with that abysmal idea.

Here's the thing. If Trump intends to use the Insurrection Act, then he's going to do it no matter what. He might be waiting for now in hopes that some protester will do something violent he can use as an excuse. But if that never happens, he could just as easily plant a false flag.

This is the most absurd explanation for why Trump wants Greenland so badly, but has anyone considered the possibility that he saw the movie Greenland, took it literally, and now wants the country as a personal evacuation route for him and his friends?
January 17, 2026 at 8:13 PM
Greenland belongs to Greenlanders. Certainly not to the US. But not to Denmark either. I fully support Greenlandic independence.

Bill Clinton made a big show recently of saying he has nothing to hide. But refusing to testify before the Congress sends exactly the opposite message. The Clintons absolutely should be held in contempt, and no-one should be carrying water for them. If they have nothing to hide, prove it.
January 15, 2026 at 1:27 AM
So, MAGA, what's the plan with Greenland exactly? Y'all have now made moves not only to acquire Greenland, but also to make it a new state. You know how they're going to vote, right?

Tracking historical parallels, the US is now at right about 1939 Germany.

Two fairly big pieces of news from progressive electoral politics have (understandably) gotten buried in all the other news from the past few days, but I think they're worth highlighting and celebrating.

As I see it right now, there are five bare-minimum essential planks that must be included in any 2028 hopeful's platform if they want us to even consider voting for them:

Per the new video today, I had a request to summarize it for the sake of those who want to know its content without exposing themselves to the potential trauma of watching it. Here is that summary:

A new video released that appears to show Renee Nicole Good's final moments way more clearly than anything else has so far, and even more thoroughly debunks the blatant lies from Trump, Vance, Noem, et al.
