Here I started with fairly literal colours (the ones that comes to mind like blue for the sea and grey for the clouds). Adjusted them with photo references, added green to make the storm more dramatic, and then pink to contrast the green and a give it a magical touch.

Thank you ! It's a tricky process but the important thing is to always keep control on your values. The colors are less important than the values. I also take a lot of photo references, and almost always add strong colors in my highlights such as pink, purple and green.
