Hey everyone! I figured I should go ahead and introduce myself. My name is Allie Tissot and I’m an ecotoxicologist who primarily studies pesticides and microplastics and their effects on marine invertebrates. I’m queer and disabled and very passionate about intersectional environmentalism. 🩵

These are the glorious stories I’ll be telling my niblings one day, clams are everything.
Hardly new info, but BSky should know:

Warsaw's water quality is monitored by eight clams with magnets attached to their shells. If contamination in the water causes the clams to close, the magnets trigger an alarm and shut off the city's water supply.

A study by the RPTU is the first to examine #pesticide contamination over a year. It shows that substances can be detected not only during the spraying periods in the fields but also throughout the year and in adjacent meadows.

This is incredible, there are so many issues with Ocean Cleanup and this is an excellent outline!! Thank you!!
"CLEANING" THE OCEAN USING NETS IS A DANGEROUS IDEA.

The Ocean Cleanup is using boats & a net to collect ocean plastic (left). I've circles all the animals trapped in their early prototypes (right).

There are better ways to solve the ocean plastic problem... 🧵
