Chris In The Morning on KBHR
@chrisonkbhr.bsky.social
Originally from Wheeling West Virginia, I migrated up here to Cicely, Alaska to work for Maurice Minnifield after a little run-in with the law. You can catch me every morning on KBHR 570AM broadcasting from the beautiful Alaskan riviera!
More updates to follow on the schedule of our annual Day of the Dead Parade and feast to follow. And until then, if you're white, keep an eye out and duck if you can! 5/5 #NorthernExposure

And while it's wholly inadequate as far as reparations go, the least we white dudes and dudettes can do this time of year is not wear anything white and take the licking we kind of deserve. Speaking of which, Ruth Anne has an ample supply of tomatoes for anyone who still needs ammunition. 4/5

For anyone new to Cicely who doesn't understand why it's open season on white people this time of year, we only need to recall that the indigenous peoples of this nation welcomed we of fairer skin from Europe with generosity & we repaid them with Small Pox & genocide. So yeah, it's complicated. 3/5

Yessir - the time of year when the grim reaper meets Miles Standish, and death head pumpkins abound. And word of caution to all of the white folks out there. The tomatoes are starting to fly! Whoa - Dr. Fleischman just got nailed outside the KBHR studio! 2/5

Just remember, it's not WHAT you fling, but the fling itself...

Age is just a state of mind, David. Cicely will always be here...
November 20, 2024 at 2:54 PM
We all get that way - it's OK. Cicely will always be here for you.

Those will be particularly important this Thanksgiving if you are having dinner with your extended family...

I'll pass this along to Maggie ;)

Ruth-Anne wanted me to pass along a reminder for everyone to NOT WAIT 'til the last minute to get your Thanksgiving provisions this year! She's ordered extra canned cranberry sauce but it always goes fast!

So on that note, I'm spinning this one for you my fellow Cicelians. The lines are open - tell me what you think and how you're doing. End #NorthernExposure

That is not to say we turn a blind eye to the harsh realities that we are now faced with. No, indeed, we have an obligation to fight and rage against injustice. But we also must make time and space, somehow, for knowledge and beauty. Our humanity depends on it. 6/

So what brother Lewis is preaching here is that we must persist, despite the darkness around us, to make art, play music, look at the stars, study birds and frogs, walk in the woods and pursue all the things that make life worth living...5/
November 15, 2024 at 5:57 PM
Lewis continues, "Plausible reasons have never been lacking for putting off all cultural activities until some imminent danger has been averted or some injustice put right...If men had postponed the search for knowledge & beauty until they were secure, the search would never have begun." 4/

But it's during these times I like to remember the words of C.S. Lewis who wrote, "Human life has always been lived on the edge of a precipice...Even those periods which we think most tranquil...turn out, on closer inspection, to be full of crises, alarms, difficulties, emergencies." 3/

If you're like me, you've been a little perturbed by the news of the world lately - climate change, wars and the political turmoil of these United States. It can get so all-consuming that it may be difficult for some of us to even navigate the day...2/
