The autumnal heath.

The same view on the same date in 2023 and 2025. All forecasts this year were for the best autumn colours ever. Isn't it reassuring that we must admit we don't know everything: a bit of humility goes a long way!

This is why we care. Came across this photo of Old King George in full autumn sail taken from our flat window two years ago today...

Lovely sunny (cold!) walk for Brightlingsea U3A today. Couple of pix: a splendid Robin (Also Stonechat, Kingfisher, Snipe, Little Egret, Brent Geese) and a food-filled hedge with pollen/nectar from Winter Jasmine and Maiden's Bower & Firethorn fruit. Bonus Red Admiral in the warmth out of the wind.

A rainy day in Derbyshire cleared for long enough to really enjoy the main reason for our short break here, the wrought iron edifice that is the Bennerley Viaduct over the Erewash Valley. The autumn colours complemented the rusting structure in mutual recognition of the passage of time...

Gall help needed please! Today in Wivenhoe Park, Essex, UK under the giant leaves of Far Eastern Quercus dentata. The galls look like blobby, rounded Common Spangle Galls. This could be the shape of these galls on this novel host (not recorded on Bladmineerders.nl). Or is there another species?
