Americans use guns defensively hundreds to over a million times a year, far more often than guns are used in homicides, and most gun owners will never commit a violent crime. If lawful owners are regularly stopping or deterring crime, is the real issue their rights — or something else entirely?

I’m a gun owner as my dad left me his firearms, and with them a deep sense of responsibility. Most owners I know take that seriously and follow the rules. Shouldn’t we be focused on protecting responsible gun owners’ rights instead of treating us like the problem?
