yes thats better to find a good idea that deserves a longer development time.

That's a good reason to participate in game jams too.

I'm used to just apply discipline and work no matter what.

The challenge also is to make the fun last for long enough.

When makin a game I often feel that some parts are fun, or have potential, but then it gets boring fast and I don't want to play anymore.

But if you make a game you want to play, you are aiming at the market niche you belong as a gamer, so it seems to be a better business decition than making a game just because your developer personality wants to make it.

A good example of innovation done right is Batman arkham asylum, it introduced the one button click combat, where previously in traditional 3rd person combat games you had to lock on enemies and had other complex or clunky action systems for combat.

Another good example is Elden Ring, it introduced the stealth mechanics, which I really loved, but it only made sense to use it in a very small ruins section of the first map zone, I guess the devs realized the dark souls formula is about combat, not stealth.

I also think that I buy more games than everybody else because since I make games I'm more curious about the ideas of other games and their design.

I think this is because they are over saturated with games they LOVE, they have too many choices already, both in the older games, their backlog of games they love, and new games they LOVE.

Maybe most people are like that too, nobody accepts anything less that the best of the best, something that they truly LOVE.

You can't make an OK game and hope people "like" it, if you create something less that something they LOVE they won't pay any attention to it.
