Those units have to be replaced. In SF code if they don’t lnow the income of the old tenants then a huge portion of the new units are rent controlled. So you are creating far more rent controlled units with this upzoning.

Yes 28% of LA allows multifamily construction. That means most new multifamily housing goes on busy roads with lots of pollution. Is this a system you’re defending? what’s your point here?

An example I always bring up is Kevin Falconer. He was a solid Yimby mayor of San Diego. Then he tried to run for governor and immediately came out against SB9 because his party couldn't handle the idea of duplexes. They are so unserious.

Maybe I'm inviting a pile on, but what do...they mean by Zionist these days? Like if someone believes in a 2 state solution, are they Zionist? What is their test for for this?

This is another excellent piece from @ebwhamilton.bsky.social. I don't think I would've predicted how much we are overbuilding large bedroom housing to smaller housing even as household size shift and everyone complains "we don't need more luxury studios." It does in fact look like we need more.

What do you mean it's not getting built?! Look at this building Blackrock bought. They are building a ton, it was "Reportedly it’s the only multifamily asset delivered in Thousand Oaks in the past 15 years." Just think in the next 15 years there may be another building to compete with them!

This is a great example of their point. Blackrock bought this Thousand Oaks apartment building which is "Reportedly it’s the only multifamily asset delivered in Thousand Oaks in the past 15 years." Not a lot of worry about competition when they're your housing output.

As someone who regularly bike commutes by Dodger stadium, I can’t tell you how different that experience would be here. if Ohtani himself walked out of the parking lot, along the sidewalk less street to the train, drivers would scream “get out of the road“. I guess that would give ya a feel of LA.

@cohenhouse.bsky.social What's the lawsuit over the Sears in Glendale going to be over? Will this be the first AB130 lawsuit? I'm not sure what the reason Glendale gave for blocking it. Is this going to be like Burbank blocking Pickwick, all performative and then they just fold before court?

Incredible stuff. We need more family units... But put them on the polluted main streets, not in the quiet neighborhoods they would ruin the neighborhood character.
