Probably through funding services for families. We have amazing social workers who connect families with various resources. And mental health support too

I’m not on the diagnostic side, so it’s hard for me to say. Specialty societies also try to adapt by responding to population based studies—adjusting their screening guidelines to younger ages, populations that may be at greater risk, etc

Well, to be honest I’m not sure it’s that doctors are better at working up symptoms: in the modern era we have less and less time with patients. I think what’s really driving it is improvement in testing—new blood tests, advanced imaging. But I think medical education improves every year

Christina from North Carolina! Here to connect with others passionate about improving cancer care. I treat all cancers but my specialization is in a procedure called brachytherapy, often used for GYN and genitourinary malignancies #medsky

And an often under appreciated role: the driver!

Just being there at appointments and taking in all of the info! Asking the questions! And outside of the clinic—as patient advocates at medical specialties…people need to know their stories!

Great case! There’s a lot of trials of utilizing cesium brachytherapy for brain tumors in humans as well.

Important lesson in making sure to pull back on the syringe/needle once you’re in a position to make sure you’re not in a vessel

💯 I recently stumbled upon this new journal that was started by some ICU docs. Some reviewers get a small honorarium for their work. A step in the right direction www.rjmedicine.org

interesting analysis!

I really don’t think this is right lol. Having an in person medical interpreter is a game changer. Also how is AI going to replace someone who accompanies/attends to a passenger (I’m assuming this is at an airport?)?

I’ve also seen people lose their jobs because of their diagnosis….

It’s really not fair. The world is so stacked against people sometimes.

I’ve had to help more patients navigate finances more than ever recently. It breaks my heart. Having to worry about keeping the lights on, not getting a paycheck bc they can’t work, having employers and also doctors (who insist on them taking time off) who don’t understand

Science communication would be better if we had more titles like these

I have the same feeling! Be it writer’s block or it’s just hard to find time to sit down and actually start. I just wrote one for a colleague and I was reminded of so many happy memories and it filled my heart with joy

So, it’s fine to invest in AI, but I wouldn’t expect it as a fix to everything. It’ll replace some jobs that can be done by a simple algorithm/automation but often times it’s just augmenting the work that most of us do

This is the right take. People perceive AI as “magic” when really it’s a form of a million monkeys on typewriters and sometimes it makes Shakespeare. Yes, AI is a useful tool, but now in our jobs we are going to have to review so many lines of text generated by LLMs.

Interesting! I am gearing up to post my research here. People in my field are mostly on X but I notice that posts get buried there, but the active radiation oncology users typically do see it. I haven’t loved LinkedIn for academic work. I check it maybe once a month.
