I agree. The main problem is that whoever wrote the mandatory minimum sentencing laws didn't take into account our Charter.
Unfortunately there is very little legal media literacy in Canada, and people will focus on the right-wing spin of "SC allows only wrist-slaps for pedos" knee-jerk reaction.
