4. THE HOUNDING by Xenobe Purvis. Five sisters are accused of turning into dogs in an 18th century England village. The book follows the townspeople as they try to sus out the truth from fiction. Beautiful and terse— not a word wasted. #LibFaves25

5. VICTORIAN PSYCHO by Virginia Feito. A perfect blend of grisly horror and dark humor, the book follows the weird Winifred “Fred” Notty, a new governess to two older children at Ensor House. Already picked up by @a24movies.bsky.social , this book is destined to be a freaky lil classic. #LibFaves25

6. KILLER ON THE ROAD by Stephen Graham Jones. And no, it’s not the only SGJ on my list. Technically it’s a rerelease but I was completely taken with this story. We don’t get a good highway horror every day. A teen running away from home becomes the target of a shapeshifting trucker. #LibFaves2025

7. WHY I LOVE HORROR edited by @raforall.bsky.social with forward from
@sadiehartmann.bsky.social . A brilliant collection of essays from the biggest names in horror about how the genre helped them survive and thrive from childhood to present. Every story has something new to offer. #LibFaves2025

8. THE SALVAGE by Anbara Salam. A slow-burn horror set in the 60’s in a small seaside Scottish town. Marta is hired as a diver to investigate a shipwreck. But after that first dive, she becomes convinced she’s being followed by a ghost. Eerie, atmospheric, and perfect for cold nights. #LibFaves2025

9. THE POSSESSION OF ALBA DÍAZ by Isabel Cañas. An appropriate transition from my romance obsession into horror, as Cañas’ books often have both. Alba must choose between her fiancé of convenience and a broody alchemist in this 18th century Gothic. The possession parts are quite scary! #LibFaves25

10. PROBLEMATIC SUMMER ROMANCE by Ali Hazelwood. As someone who primarily reads horror, it feels disingenuous to love Ali Hazelwood as much as I do. Her character-driven STEMinist romances bring me so much joy, and this age gap romance set in Italy is one of her best. #LibFaves25
