It is funny how Connections bot uses "this was a creative guess!" as a euphemism for "what the hell were you thinking?!?"

Does this mean Bluesky is now the new town square?

I like that whenever my son marvels at things I tell him about my childhood, I can just tell him "it was the 80s" and he seems to have a deep understanding of what means...

I'm sure this is a silly question, but is there any reason (other than making sure neither company has an advantage based on what turns out be circulating) why they can't decide to have Moderna target one variant like BA.2.86 and Pfizer target one like LP.8.1?

Seems like hedging bets would be good.

Manhattan is lovely and, as a bonus, we have one fewer jerk than we would have in a different timeline.
I have to withhold my comments, because---

"Yet despite his connections and credentials, he did not get the job. He didn’t even get a second interview. “It was in Manhattan, Kansas — who the heck is applying for this?” Dr. Fullagar, 33, wondered. “That one was really baffling.”"

😬
Struck by this being an "ominous sign for the economy" because "Earning a Ph.D. in economics has long been a reliable path to affluence and prestige. Not anymore."

Why was it a reliable path? Why weren't history jobs disappearing an ominous sign?

Everyone always asks "what is pi to the 10th digit?" but nobody ever asks "HOW is pi to the 10th digit?"

The undergrad office for the lab is getting out of control.

For the record, I:

2) don't usually drink iced coffees
3) don't have s mullet

What a difference 2 years makes!

Two years ago, Poet In A Box at the KState Open House felt like ChatGPT was going to overcome them... and now they seem confident.

Way to get your mojo back!

this is the most faculty thing i've ever seen
The transcript of the faculty meeting that cost Katrina Armstrong her job leaked because nobody at Columbia was able to configure Zoom to prevent transcription.
