I'm not very familiar with Fukuyama beyond the "end of history" quote. I always thought he was a regular political scientist who just made one very short-sighted call and was relentlessly mocked for it. Did I misunderstand? Does he actualy do nothing *except* clown on himself?

The fact that the person in the CCTV pictures didn't look like the platonic ideal of a man is all the proof we need that it wasn't Luigi.

HCR was literally a Republican and her positions haven't substantially changed. If you're a Republican looking at her and see "Democrat", you should treat that it as a massive wake-up call for where your politics have drifted. As someone on the left, I see her as an intelligent conservative.

Was there ever not pushback? Were they ever not speaking out? They are narcissists. That's the problem! They've been screaming about their supposed victimhood the entire time, with a complicit media pushing pieces like this, asking if they should simply be *allowed* to abuse their adult children.

The Time Person of the Year is about who had the biggest impact, not who is a good person. I hate it when they use multiple people as the "person", but given that they often do, this is a perfectly fine choice for that. These men are the ones destroying our planet.

Yeah, that struck me too, how referencing them as architects raises a direct contrast with the *workers* in the original. I think that, combined with what Nick was saying, makes it all feel like an intentional artistic choice, that these guys are detached idiots playing god, with no guardrails.

He actually found a lost porpoise out at sea, guided it to the shore near where its pod lived and then made up the sleeping on a surfboard story to avoid embarrassing the porpoise.

It's also why they work so well with fascists, another group who don't believe in anything. Fascists only care about exerting control over people at whatever cost, and centrists respect that because it confirms their shared premise: politics isn’t about material outcomes, it's only about who wins.

Centrists don't have beliefs, and consequently don't believe anyone *else* has beliefs, so if you're behaving as if you believe something, you must be faking it for attention/power, and so you are worthy of attack. That's their whole political position summed up.
