I am a vet student and completed a training on wildlife medicine and triage in the spring with the NWRA along with about 20 of my classmates. More vets are getting interested in helping with wildlife rehab!

Of course! The nice thing is that the AED devices you see in public will actually diagnose those arrhythmias for you, so while you should *absolutely* start chest compressions first if a person collapses and is not breathing, sending someone to grab an AED device is the next step to saving a life!

Thinking about how my mom (a doctor) went into labor with me at like… 2 AM… and just sat in bed reading a book until 8 AM, at which point she woke my dad (also doctor) up to tell him she was in labor. He told her “don’t worry you’ve got a few hours” 😂🤣 She still reminds him of this

I love The West Wing, but there’s a scene where President Bartlet’s cardiothoracic surgeon wife says that the pancreas secretes hydrochloric acid. Makes me want to die a little inside every time.
Also when she says peripheral neuropathy is diagnostic for a B12 deficiency 😂

You can use a defibrillator for cardiac arrest, but only for the two shockable rhythms- pulseless ventricular tachycardia and ventricular fibrillation! Pulseless electrical activity and asystole (“flatline”) are not shockable rhythms

Green stick fractures only occur in young animals/people, so you weren’t entirely wrong! They are called “green stick” because the idea is that the bone doesn’t break cleanly in half- much like how a “green stick” from a tree would bend and peel away rather than fully snapping in half!
