The advocacy org People for Bikes rightly criticized Chicago for our lack of protected intersections. CDOT recently installed our first one on the Near South Side, but local City Council rep Pat Dowell is forcing them to tear it out.

Ald. Dowell is forcing CDOT to tear out portions of already installed bike lane protection on 18th, including Chicago's first protected intersection.

As for, "The public needs to be reassured elected officials are taking this seriously," they could have mentioned measures included in the new transit bill.

One of IL Policy's endless gripes about the transit bill that's not completely unwarranted is "Why aren't fares going up next year?" Here's an explanation from Sen. Villivalam, one of the bill's architects, which is also reasonable.

After our interview with CTA Media, plus some legislative spelunking, indicated Mayor Johnson *can* pick Acting Prez Leerhsen to be permanent CTA chief by 6/1, and she would stay on the job, #TeamNora calls on the mayor to recommend her.

Not all of Illinois Policy Institute's transportation-related commentary is terrible. In fact, we just gave a shout-out to a very good post on the abolition of parking requirements near transit stations by IPI Policy Researcher LyLena Estabine.

Here are strategies to improve safety on transit, including Transit Ambassadors (to deter crime, connect unhoused people w/ services, notify police of serious issues), included in the transit bill sitting on Gov. Pritzker's desk.

Hey transit-friendly lawmakers: Illinois Policy said last week, "True fiscal stability requires reform, not just more revenue." You should use "No revenue without reform!" as your slogan.

Oh, that *was* your slogan and the bill that passed has lots of reforms? 🙃
