also, i don't watch a lot of anime (nor have i seen any star wars movies :( ) ; most of the anime i've seen have had villains that are purely evil for the sake of it, take Count Cagliostro from Lupin III for example, or Kishin Asura from Soul Eater

don't get me wrong, i love steven universe and talk about it often (spinel had me fucked up for a LOOONNGG time i love her sm) it just feels like since then there's been MORE of "this guy's evil bc they're traumatized" since the finale, not that they never existed

my only gripe about steven universe is that it kinda kickstarted the whole "sympathetic villain" movement and we don't really see a lot of villains that are evil for the sake of being evil anymore as a result of that (do tell me if i'm wrong tho)
