Cell division, but bread. You can tell this is not plant cell division.

Something interesting. I first saw this in a teaching greenhouse, but now confirmed in my lab light shelves! In long days (16L8D), my Kalanchoe grew clones (first pic). In short days (8L16D), no clones. Short day grown plants also lack anthocyanin (red patches under the leaf). #PlantScience

New paper is online! We used single cell RNA-seq & phylogenetics to identify 2 additional cell type specific TFs that control late-stage vinca alkaloid biosynthesis. The key insights originated from Camptotheca, another species that produces alkaloids. doi.org/10.1111/nph.... #PlantScience #SecMet

I was surprised to see the structural similarity btw jasmonic acid and prostaglandin. They are both synthesized from fatty acids, having a 5-member ring with a ketone. They even have functional analogy: JA is a signal for herbivory damage; PG mediates pain, fever, and inflammation.

A quick search I found this: pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/38500495/ "Identification of dihydromyricetin as a natural DNA methylation inhibitor with rejuvenating activity in human skin".

Dihydromyricetin DHM is a plant derived flavanonol natural product. This is the active ingredient?

Skotomorphogenesis in the kitchen cabinets.

Technically skotomorphogenesis refers to the seedling’s morphology developed in the dark. This ginger sprout is not a seedling.
