I read somewhere that the Steam version was going to be sold until the current sale ends. Not sure about the reasoning behind it, but it makes upgrading to the Director's Cut really cheap, if that's the route you want to go.

The base game on Steam is DRM-free, too. You won't get access to the DLC without Steam running and being logged in, but that's all cosmetic, anyway, so you won't be missing out on anything story related if you don't want to use Steam to play after you've downloaded everything.

My wife and I just recently finished Cronos, and it was surprisingly good. It's much more survival than you would think, and you have to very carefully manage your resources in the beginning of the game, but the whole thing was excellent, and I highly recommend it.

If you somehow haven't gotten to play Shovel Knight yet, do yourself a favor and grab this. You're getting four full platformers and one fighting game for under $25, and the platformers rival any of the famous Nintendo platformers of the NES and SNES eras. They're masterpieces.

Jan. 20, 2016 is the listed release date on Steam.

Yup, SEGA is worthless. Denuvo has been removed from four of about 70 of their games.
December 4, 2025 at 5:04 AM
Just a clarification: Denuvo has actually already been removed, it's the authentication server that will be shut down in January.

I know this is a bit of a tongue-in-cheek comment, but I'd genuinely grab this just to extract the Daytona USA ROM if there were a way, even though I normally avoid any games with Denuvo. I know you can get the SEGA Master System games easily, but I don't know about the arcade games.

Can the AI stuff be turned off?

It feels almost criminal to pay this little for one of the best stories in gaming. Absolutely play it if you haven't yet.

Obligatory PSA that the Steam version still has Denuvo, if you can even believe that.

Steam's Offline Mode is unreliable if you let it work automatically (which is, admittedly, the way most people would want it to work). If you manually put Steam into Offline Mode, it will last indefinitely; I have backups of the Steam client from a decade ago that still work perfectly offline now.

and it'll work without ever needing to go online again; any games that don't use extra DRM are the same. It's usable forever without any online checks after you have the files downloaded, there's no phoning home. It's not as good as DRM-free, obviously, but it is still server independent.

The Steam client is used as DRM most of the time, yes, and it's unfortunate that it popularized the concept. But the Steam client itself can be put into Offline Mode and the entire installation can be copied/pasted to any number of offline machines,

Same here. I'm fine with Steam DRM, because Steam can literally just be copied and pasted to another machine and it'll work offline forever. But the moment Ubisoft, Rockstar, Denuvo, etc. rears their ugly heads, I'm out.

DRM that wants me to ask permission to play something I've already paid for

Oh my God, that GPU was *immediately* gone.
November 28, 2025 at 5:02 PM
So, let me guess: SEGA being SEGA, they're going to delist the original Yakuza 0, and they're going to only allow you to buy the Director's Cut on the PC, which, knowing them, will have Denuvo? That's what they did with the Genesis Sonic games, after all.

I love me some Space Harrier, so I couldn't pass this up for $5.
November 25, 2025 at 8:27 PM
Excellent, thank you!
November 25, 2025 at 6:38 PM
Fun fact: With this game in your library, you can download the launch-day version using a Steam command to get the build of the game that they accidentally released without Denuvo. Can't give your paying customers freedom on purpose, after all!

The Pro 2 is probably my overall favorite controller ever, so the Pro 3 is pretty tempting, but the Steam Controller is coming soon, and I feel like nothing is ever going to be better than that.
