Alright it’s Halloween, so I’m going to start my watch of the whole The Conjuring franchise, starting with the first one from 2013!

I’ve seen this one before back when it came out, but it’s been a while. Let’s see where it all began!

So today I hosted a panel called “Out, Loud and Critical: Queer Journalists Changing Games Media”.

Since starting Checkpoint Gaming 11(!) years ago, focusing on the importance of queer voices in the video game industry has been paramount.

I loved Good Boy.

It’s rare for a movie to offer something completely different, and seeing horror from the perspective of a dog made for a terrifying, uncomfortable and compelling watch.

Indy is easily the best pet actor in history. A must see for anybody who loves dogs.

2025 Finished Game #31 - Wheel World

A little open world racing game with a lot of heart, a neat sense of humor, lo-fi beats and gorgeous visuals. Riding around with my ghost demon pal made for a lovely couple of afternoons over a lazy weekend that was much needed!

2025 Finished Game #30 - I AM YOUR BEAST

A super entertaining way to spend a couple of hours. Challenging, frustrating, fast-paced and fabulous. If I was a speed runner I’d have a field day with this. Cool stuff!

2025 Finished Game #29 - DOOM: The Dark Ages

Always a fun franchise, but this one dragged on a little bit too long for me! Still love ripping and tearing through demons, and I enjoyed it, but the flying bits and giant-demon bits weren’t the best.

2025 Finished Game #28 - Duck Detective: The Ghost of Glamping

Another super cute and satisfying puzzle mystery game. I hope they keep making more Duck Detective games, they’re so wholesome and satisfying to play through in an afternoon. Love!

2025 Finished Game #26 and #27 - Lost Records: Bloom & Rage

Really enjoyed this underrated gem from DONTNOD. They really nailed how young people interact with one another, the importance of friendship and how we change as we grow older. Really queer, and really neat.

Finished Game #25 - Donkey Kong Bananza

BANANA!! I really love this game, just so gratifying smashing through everything, and it’s packed with collectibles and personality.

Finished Game #24 - Super Mario Bros. Wonder

I grabbed this during a tough time in my life, and never went back to it… until now.

It truly is a fantastic Mario game, looking forward to the Switch 2 upgrade/expansion next year! Also pls put Wonder Flowers in the next 3D Mario, thx.

Finished Game #23 - Section 13

This game is… fine. Ran through it with some buddies and had a decent time but it’s a fairly forgettable experience compared with so many other greats in the twin-stick shooter genre.

2025 Finished Game #22 - Mario Kart World

(Forgot about the list, let’s catch up!)

Mario Kart World is fantastic! But it’s also just more Mario Kart! Knockout Tour is amazing and overall this has become another regular go-to for game nights.

Freshness is actually pretty great with chains over there; these ones too, from In-n-Out, fresh ingredients and good burgs

Still reeling from the absolutely fantastic, epic, life-changing week I had in L.A.

Heading into the office today is gonna be tough, so I’m just gonna repeatedly cycle through all the photos of amazing people, experiences and food I got to have last week. ❤️

2025 Finished Game #21 - Parallel Experiment

Another solid puzzle game for 2 players that relies on communication and sharing information, this one was super cute. Not all the mechanics worked, but the ones that did made for a brain-teasing good time that’s perfect for riddle lovers.

2025 Finished Game #20 - Despelote

A unique soccer snapshot of a very specific moment in time: Ecuador qualifying for the World Cup in 2002. Full of childlike excitement, authentic, personal storytelling and a gorgeous art style, this one grabbed me.

2025 Finished Game #19 - Revenge of the Savage Planet

Colourful, co-op and utterly charming, I love this crazy alien universe, but a lot of the FMV humour didn’t hit for me. Still, very enjoyable exploration with a buddy makes for a decent follow-up to Journey of the Savage Planet.

2025 Finished Game #18 - Many Nights a Whisper

Wow. This short but oh-so-sweet game about one slingshot attempt impacting the dreams of a whole village is beautiful, heartfelt and another huge win for @deconstructeam.bsky.social.

(Also, I made the shot… and I don’t know how I feel about it)

Finished Game #17 - Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny

This remaster is good, but still has a lot of the old-school quirks of the original. It’s charming and I really enjoyed it, and I’m so excited for new Onimusha finally next year!!

Finished Game #16 - Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

Wow. Just… wow. I think that’s one of the most incredible games I’ve ever played. Holy hell.

Visually stunning, soundtrack amazing, story incredible, combat wonderful. It’s got it all. No notes.

10/10 experience and there’s no question about it.

2025 Finished Game #15 - Monster Hunter Wilds

Obviously I love Monster Hunter, and this is another excellent entry, but I wish the co-op wasn’t so convoluted during the campaign! Otherwise, it’s stellar.

2025 Finished Game #14 - Atomfall

Loved the different approach to this one, making you really investigate leads and figure out a cool mystery. Fun setting too!

2025 Finished Game #13 - Blue Prince

Holy hell, what an incredible puzzle game. I know there’s more to do post-credits, but feels awesome to have finally found Room 46. What a ride. Looking forward to whatever comes next 🕵🏻‍♂️ 🔵 👑

2025 Finished Game #12 - South of Midnight

While the gameplay didn’t absolutely thrill me, it’s fun, breezy, and the Deep South setting is truly incredible. Stunning style, dark folklore storytelling, talking giant catfish… hell yeah.
