MP for Ely & East Cambridgeshire
East Cambs District Councillor for Bottisham
Promoted by the Liberal Democrats, 1 Vincent Square, SW1P 2PN
The Government has turned its back on farmers.
The family farm tax will devastate family farms and likely force closures, threatening our countryside, environment and food security.
If ministers care about a sustainable future, they must reverse this and back farmers accross the UK.

Another Budget.
More stealth taxes.
Still no plan for growth.

Local families, businesses and farmers across Ely and East Cambs deserved better. I’ll keep fighting for fairer funding for our services and real investment in our local economy.

Pleased to attend Unlock Democracy’s event in Parliament today. 🗳 Our democracy is precious – we must do all we can to safeguard and strengthen it.

Visited the brilliant MAGPAS Air Ambulance team today. They operate 24/7, responding to life-threatening emergencies across our region and attended 1,872 callouts last year. They receive no regular state funding and rely on donations to keep saving lives. An absolutely vital service. 🚁🧡

There are 650 MPs, and I’m only the 660th woman ever elected.
Ask Her to Stand Day marks the 1918 law that first allowed women to stand for Parliament.
We’ve come far, but there’s more to do.

Going out shouldn’t be an unaffordable luxury.
I’m calling for an emergency VAT cut for pubs, restaurants, and accommodation in the upcoming Budget — reducing VAT from 20% to 15%.
This would put money back in people’s pockets, help local venues survive and thrive, and protect jobs in Ely & E Cambs.

I was pleased to join the End the Cage Age event in Parliament recently.

I’ll keep pressing the Government to phase out cages and ensure farming reflects compassion and science.

It’s International Men’s Day — a chance to support men and boys’ wellbeing. Huge thanks to local initiatives like Soham Men’s Shed and the Ely Men’s Walking and Talking Group, and to the countless projects nationwide helping men connect, talk, and thrive.

Yesterday, the Home Secretary announced plans to overhaul the UK’s broken asylum system. The system needs fixing, but Labour's proposals signal a deeply concerning shift—an attack on Britain’s proud tradition of compassion and support for refugees and asylum seekers.

Our precious chalk streams — like the beautiful River Snail in my constituency — are under real pressure. 🌱💧

That’s why I’ve been calling for strong, statutory protections, not just guidance that can be changed without scrutiny.

On Tuesday, I spoke about the urgent need for a national dyslexia strategy. Too many children are being labelled as failures when the system is failing them. We must ensure early diagnosis, proper support in the classroom and fairer assessments for pupils like my constituent, Lucy. buff.ly/YFsTuOf

🚆 Met with the Minister for Rail this week to keep up the pressure for long-overdue upgrades to the Ely Rail Junction. It was a constructive discussion — I’m encouraged the Government is open to exploring the huge economic and environmental benefits this project could unlock for the whole UK.
