This would be my guess, too. So, surprisingly available in Banbridge Library c.1979.

I’m guessing whatever one was available in the late 1970s?

I think all the branches in the north are closed.

Used to love the Portadown Easons. Read all kinds of things there on the open shelves. And the novels of Iain Banks, with their ‘classic’ black and white covers, before the boring rubbish new edition covers came in.

The decline of Eason’s makes me sad. When I was a teenage mosher I always hung out there, speed reading books for free.

I’m not sure if she’d want to be quoted on it!

Probably also journalists failing to do any work to find anyone else from the multitude of other Scottish historians.

You can hear from many other Scottish historians by reading my column.

Having a read of it just now!

One of my biggest gripes with it is that it does not easily translate into doing anything else. Employers do not like postgraduate degrees. So what exactly was the point in getting them?

Front page with Kevin McKenna - no thanks. The paper is just totally awful, seemingly designed to appeal to the worst instincts of conservative men aged over 60. Remaining readers of liberal persuasion would be advised to decamp to the National. Don’t like something there - write in and say so!

I don’t think anyone needs telling that that newspaper is both stupid and nasty. Personally I wouldn’t be seen dead with my writing in it.
