Curitiba seeded the happy cities revolution through inventions like bus rapid transit.

So I’m super excited to speak at Smart City Expo Curitiba this month! What more can we learn from Curitiba?

Urbanists, help! For my new book I'm framing auto-dependent cities vs walkable cities language of social connections. Which frame is best?
1 Face-to-face cities vs windshield cities
2 Bridge cities vs walled cities
3 Simple cities vs complex cities
4 High-contact cities vs low-contact cities
Or?

When the snow comes those of us in cohousing clear it much faster than people in detached homes. Is it culture, or is it just that there are more of us to work together? Both I think.

I asked X's AI Grok why @elonmusk posts so much misinformation and got this...

Imperial Tie fighter spotted in California. Senator demands US action.

I do miss the crazy factor over on X sometimes. But only sometimes.

It’s wonderful to see so many cities following your example, Gil!

Saw this today in Guadalajara:

Pure joy.

Vía RecreActiva de Guadalajara hoy!

Look at that kid pop a wheelie!

With Mexico’s great advocate for human streets, Yazmín Viramontes.

Today in Guadalajara.
It’s incredible to see the freedom that these open streets—Vía RecreActivas—give people each Sunday!
Yes you can have this in your city, too.

It’s amazing that while a government is forcing Toronto to rip out bike lanes, cities around the world are adding them as a solution to congestion. This is Guadalajara yesterday:

The most brutal class divide in America may be around social support.

Rich, college educated Americans have more access to social spaces, and enjoy more support from friends. The poor and less-educated are increasingly left out.

Look at this image. We cram tall apartments along noisy, polluted arterials, so new residents suffer in order to protect wealthy, detached-home residents from neighbours.

It’s deeply unhealthy and unfair.

Another happy city snapshot:

In Dubai, the most nurturing places are nowhere near the new luxury developments.

They are here in the old town, on streets slow, connected and lively enough to welcome children.

Another urban snapshot.

Yes America you can build walkable communities! Loved the cozy human scale of @culdesac.bsky.social … delivered thanks to eliminating most car storage

This is a risky machine!

Some kid fell off and cried. Then jumped back on. Another kid stepped on my son’s hand. My son cried, then he had a good chat with the offender.

In other words, this machine is doing excellent work exposing kids to the right kinds of risk.

With backyards increasingly out of reach, how can we ensure everyone gets access to green space in the city? The answer, says Happy Cities' Madeleine Herbert, is more creative sharing. @happycities.com @theglobeandmail.com

Forced parking kills social spaces. Buffalo scrapped parking mandates in 2017. Now dozens of cities around the world are following, giving landowners more freedom to build the things we really need.
