Tiny solo dev trying to create a horror game and a 2D animated series one day
I think you can still see though that the look is evolving and that I will have to make a bit of an overhaul when they are all done cause I am still easing into it. I also still have trouble keeping the contrast of the features similar between characters.

When I finally landed on sth I liked I tried to keep as many consistencies as possible. For example the blocky cel shaded look of the under eyes and eye lids, the main texture of the iris and the lined lips and general shape of the highlights.

I apparently drew a lot as a kid so I didn't start from nothing but there was still a steep learning curve diving into digital drawing. To compare: my first try and after drawing A LOT more.
I think that right image is when I thought huh maybe I can try doing that for my 3D models too?

That's a hard one🤔
Step one was watching Arcane 8 times in a row.
Then I started painting faces and developed a technique similar to my 3D modelling process. The philosophy here is I put a dark color down and then erase where stuff extrudes/reflects. Hope the timelapse shows what I mean

I usually don't record my modelling process because it makes me feel like someone's constantly watching and judging me.
But when I made Makena's car I managed to ignore those feelings for two days so have this timelapse.

Not as much progress as I'd hoped for this weekend but I finished her face texture and tried something fun with her glasses.

Finished gathering movie screen grabs for my color studies and I forgot how amazing practical effects and sets could be.
I grew up around the 2000s superhero cgi boom so I missed a lot of classics. I was flipping through so many movies today I realized I haven't even seen Back To The Future😶‍🌫️

I'd personally go with one shade for the bushes cause there's already quite a lot going on on screen. I made a quick overpaint to test some colors and I think just darkening the green a bit is already enough to give it some contrast and make the gameplay elements pop more. (First image is your OG)

Today's achievements in #gamedev:

- finally started working on the pp volume
- wrote so much code it might be time to rotate the monitor
- found and decorated a bunch of notebooks intended for learning vocabs which I'll use for data types/nodes/etc. instead

I don't have much for today. Refined some facial expressions, finished her upper body textures and her body rig. Now it's only the hair and shoe textures left and she's ready to go into #cascadeur for animating.

Not too sure new girl approves of my rigging skills.
Pretty much done with her lower body rig. Messed up the arms along the way as shown below😅
Also spent half a day on a screaming blendshape and it's by far the hardest facial expression.

If it's normals sometimes it's only obvious after export. I added an image for if you want to check it yourself. Whenever something doesn't work it's often either flipped normals or not applying the scale. On that note, did you apply the scale of your mesh? (select mesh -> cntrl +a -> scale)
