Being Virginia-born, I didn’t know real barbecue until I discovered eastern North Carolina barbecue. I since learned that’s not even the only North Carolina barbecue tradition. Western Carolina barbecue has a tomato based sauce.

Pretty sure North Carolina takes the crown.

I was raised in the upper South by two upstate NYers, so I understand this as it applies both to others and sometimes to myself. 😂

Yanks have Nor’Easters and Alberta Clippers and lake-effect snow.

Southerners have tornadoes and hurricanes.

But also the best damned barbecue…
