First time playing around with Shrinky Dinks, my friends and I based them off of medieval #marginalia. Lots of coloring involved with color pencils and Sharpie markers for the outline. #crafting #medievalmarginalia #creatures #beasts #drawing
Two medieval creatures on a shrinking plastic medium, they are about 3” wide shown on a cardboard background. The one on the left is mainly red, stands on two legs and has long ears, a long snout, and a short pointed tail. It wears a squire’s robe that is blue and teal and holds a red shield with a 7 pointed star shape. The creature on the right stands on 4 legs, with a green toucan like beak, has beagle-like ears, has a long vine for a tail and its body is striped with black. It is heavily patterned, mostly in orange and red, with thin white lines and a strip of blue with white dots along its back.

Another tidbit, this is the full length. Supposedly these #siphonophores get to 40 ft long so the actual #illustration was printed to span a 40 foot length across the exhibit gallery. It was also the reason it was an illustration. None of the deep sea photos could be blown up to that resolution.

The animal is rendered with the head and some of its length brighter to convey that only some of its length is illuminated by an underwater light.

A giant siphonophore, a colonial animal in phylum Cnidaria, digitally illustrated to show off its enormous length in a long, undulating manner. Mostly transparent, the animal is mostly a pale blue with yellow tentacles dangling from the individual zooids. The “head” or bell approximately in the middle of the illustration is rendered in such a way as to resemble transparent nostrils.
