MPP for Ottawa West—Nepean.
Education critic for the Ontario NDP.
Researcher, policy analyst, and mom to 3 amazing kids.
Had a great chat with the Ontario Undergraduate Student Alliance on how the province can ensure the safety and well-being of students, including strengthening sexual violence policies and standards for student housing.

Sexual assault is one of the most pervasive forms of violence in Canada. I tabled a petition to Establish Consent Awareness Week to remind people the importance of respecting people's right to be safe and understand what consent means.

Lovely meeting Ottawa firefighters, Andre and Tim, from OPFFA. We discussed the need for a province-wide framework for firefighter health screening and a rollout of simultaneous notification across Ontario. Firefighters keep our communities safe, and I’ll keep working to ensure they are supported.

In Ottawa-West Nepean and across Ontario, tenants are being pushed out by bad-faith landlords and unfair rent hikes. That’s why the ONDP tabled a motion to repeal Bill 60 and reinstate real rent control. People deserve protection, not a government that sides with corporate landlords.

Toutes mes félicitations aux lauréat-e-s de l'Ordre de la Pléiade, en particulier à Johanne Lacombe, présidente du CECCE.

Congrats to all of the recipients of the Ordre de la Pléiade, and in particular, Johanne Lacombe, présidente du CECCE.

The Ford government has shown, once again, that they’re not interested in hearing from Ontarians. Instead of allowing public input on important legislation, they’re shutting people out of the process.

Friends and Advocates of Catholic Education were at Queen’s Park, and it was great to chat with them to talk about the impacts of Bill 33 and ways we can continue to strengthen and protect publicly-funded education and local governance to support all our students.

Met with Algonquin College President Claude Brulé today at Queen’s Park as part of Colleges Ontario lobby day. Persistent underfunding from the Ford government has left forced colleges to cut programs and close campuses. I was glad to see Claude advocating for long-term, stable funding.

CPP and EI costs went up, but the government didn’t increase funding to match. School boards are now forced to spend over $100 million to cover that cost; money that could have been invested in EAs, mental health supports, and student well-being.

This morning, the government voted in favour of Bill 60, making it even easier for landlords to evict tenants. Instead of standing with students, seniors, and families, the Ford government chose to stand with corporate landlords.

After appointing supervisors who are keeping parents in the dark, the Minister of Education is now hiding EQAO results from families and educators. Transparency and accountability aren’t optional: parents have a right to know how their children are doing.

It was great to meet up with teachers, education workers, and advocates this week at the OFL Convention and to talk about how we can defend public education and support students and workers. Our strength is in solidarity!

This government claims to be concerned about wasteful spending and bureaucracy, but at the same time they're forcing school boards to divert money meant for our kids into government advertising, while also requiring the minister's office to personally approve every single school name.

Once again, the Ford government has cut off voices and shut down public feedback. This time on Bill 60, which puts tenant rights at risk.
We only have four days left to fight back before the bill passes.

Email the government now and tell them to withdraw Bill 60: stopbill60.ca

Today, on Transgender Day of Remembrance, we remember and honour the people we've lost to acts of anti-trans violence. I stand in solidarity with the 2SLGBTQ+ community and will continue to advocate for the rights and safety of transgender people across the province.

Bad-faith evictions and renovictions are already hurting tenants and Bill 60 will make things even worse. The Ford govt doesn't even want to hear from renters who will be hit hardest. It's clear this govt is not standing with families, students, or seniors.

Even as this government pushed Bill 33 through, we are not done. Workers, students, and parents standing shoulder to shoulder for our schools and our democracy. The bill may have passed today, but the fight isn’t over yet.

I received a letters from students at D Roy Kennedy PS, asking for a properly funded library & more support for books in schools. I’ve shared these letters with the Min. of Education and called on him to take action. Every child deserves access to books & a library that inspires a love of reading.

The Ford government is one vote away from passing Bill 33 and Bill 60, and that final vote could take place tomorrow morning. 1/3

My ONDP Caucus colleagues and I are wearing red today in solidarity with education workers, teachers, and students in the fight against this government's attacks on our education system through Bill 33.

For nearly 5 months, I've been trying to meet with the Home Construction Regulatory Authority (HCRA) to advocate on behalf of homebuyers in OWN but they've been refusing to meet.

I am asking Ministers Flack and Crawford to hold the HCRA accountable for its failures to protect consumers.

This week, I break down what we uncovered at Education Estimates; from $350K supervisors to the widening special-ed funding gap, missing repair backlog numbers, and the government’s ongoing refusal to be transparent.

The Minister tried to distract from his own record by attacking trustees while he's forcing school boards to shell out tens of thousands of dollars for government advertising in front of schools. The hypocrisy is staggering. That money could be going to support students.
