Maybe the native humans of a continent have coexisted more-or-less peacefully with the dragons for millennia, with only occasional (respectful?) hunting of one species by the other. Then: a foreign colonizing civilization; dragons slaughtered, left to rot, except bones scales and oil.

I want someone to write a tedious speculative fiction considering both. Maybe there’s a tragedy of the commons; dragons hunted to near extinction. Maybe dragons have one baby at a time, and it takes them 50 years to mature. Treaties limiting dragon hunting, new fuel sources to replace dragon oil.

Something the article didn’t get into quite as much as I’d like is: why is there so much PFAS in our sewage? How did it get there in the first place? It explains that this is sewage from both homes and factories. Are we all flushing loads of PFAS, or is it those factories? Which factories?
